DHEA benefits for men

DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) has proved itself to work for a number of health problems including the effective treatment of bone density in arthritic conditions as well as clinical depression, adrenal insufficiency, Lupus and erectile dysfunction. DHEA has made a huge impact and is the drug of choice for many doctors.

If we are only concerned with clinical proof that DHEA works, the results show helping to improve health are not conclusive. From slowing the ageing process to treating HIV doctors quickly discovered that our own production of DHEA slows down after 30 years old just like testosterone.

Doctors have been using DHEA to treat chronic fatigue syndrome, cervical cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and many other diseases including diabetes.  There are no foods that you can eat to increase your DHEA production. DHEA is produced in the adrenal glands and there is no food source.

Considering a supplement like DHEA if you are under 30 years old needs to be done with some seriousness and should always be guided by a doctor. For men over that age it can certainly help improve vitality and vigor for life but should be guided by a qualified physician.

Taking 20mg to 200mg of DHEA is shown to be effective in a wide range of problems and is often used by men over 30 to solve erectile dysfunction and increase the immune system generally. It is strongly suggested that you consult a doctor before going on this powerful hormone.

Side effects include headaches, insomnia and fatigue but there are also recorded androgenic side effects like irregular menstruation in women or facial hair and deeper voice. Men can develop gynecomastia, high blood pressure and kidney problems.

Taking DHEA to increase lean body mass from weight training needs to be done with care and should never just be an added supplement taken without direction like whey powder.

It is a serious hormone that can affect a delicate balance and will interact negatively with hormone therapy, blood thinners and anticonvulsants, including drugs for diabetes and liver problems.
